Midlands Riders

Midlands Riders History

Years Of History As Group Ride Outs:

nack in the early 2000 the known’ and best biker group in the Midlands was of course ” Lostboys Telford ” who made there name from entering wheelie comps, raising money for local children that needed help, Lostboys was the start for me and most people around here into Bike-Life.

For me I started back in 2003, from then on i attended Lostboys rides and the bug to ride in a group really did start for me, over the years it became more like a family and friendships grew and bonds were created.

2014 myself and others started doing our own ride outs, from the midlands into wales.

It then grew to from a couple to over 20 people at a time and we made it fortnightly ride outs. Seeing how we were all enjoyed ride outs but We all wanted more. Alot of the planning and thoughts were done online in a multi message inbox of over 20 lads and girls. we all chipped in and all helped to design the logo, we all helped for the Name also, pretty simple ” Midlands ” being as the middle of the country is where we start from and live ” Riders ” simple because we all Ride lol.

December 2014 we all met up at Telford Services to hand out the “First” ever design of Midlands Riders Tops which were a long sleeve t-shirt, logo on the back, M.R on the left arm and all our names/nicknames on the chest pocket. The meeting was a success and we were all fired for 2015.

January 2015 we opened ” Midlands Riders™ ” Online on Facebook, we started getting the website design done and we started planning fortnightly ride outs for people to come on and join in..

Come the end of January we had already started gaining a Facebook following of over 100 likes on the page, we opened an Instagram page and also Twitter.

From 8th February 2015, Our first ride out was done, freezing 0 deg to a local cafe called “dinky’s ” over 50 Bikers turned up to come and join in with us.This was a great success and also the start to more good things to come.

February also saw our first ” charity ride “, which we wanted to raise for ” Midlands Air Ambulance “  — we had planned this from 2014, which we would ride to Ace Cafe London to do this. Now looking at the date now i wish id of moved it for warmer weather haha. We did do this, 70+ bikers took from the Midlands and headed down to London. That day we raised £540 for Midlands Air Ambulance. In fact we even made the local papers ” Shropshire Star ” also ” Bridgenorth Advertiser ” ( see photos on the album page ).

March 2015, 7 of us went and handed the money over to Midlands Air Ambulance ( see photos ) was a nice chance to meet the team and even the pilot and also learn abit more on what we was giving money too.

In the photo albums you will see a picture of 12+ on my drive way, heading out for a wales ride for my birthday, have to thank the lads got me a Midlands Riders cake and we all know … I loveeee CAKE! lol .

End of march saw another wales ride out which was 25+ of the team.

April – 100 Riders met to head to a Charity event in stourbridge , Riders from all over came to join in with us and we headed to the charity event. For me and close riders this is the last ever time we saw our rider ” Tommo “, Tommo attended this event but headed home early because of his bike playing up, infact later that evening myself and Tommo exchanged joking facebook messages regarding the ride and unfortunately it was our last ever conversation.

Monday 6th April, the most upsetting and quite shocking post we have had to read was that Tommo unfortunately passed away and had been involved in a accident…Gutted, Upset and words cannot describe how it feels to lose a brother, a Midlands Rider, infact he worn the shirt all the time i was told and he was so proud to be apart of Midlands Riders.  My heart and love went out to the family and 20+ of the Team headed up later up the week and met with the family and expressed our deepest thoughts to them. ( see Tommo’s own Page on here )

R.I.P Brother, We Miss You. x

April 19th, saw 100 bikers turn up and ride out to Matlock Bath to raise some money for Tommo’s Family, this was a huge turn out ( see photo page ) we over took over one petrol station on the way up, brill video of us leaving the station its defiantly a sight to see 🙂  We actually gave the money to Tommo’s Wife who we asked to spend on Tommo’s 2 daughters. That day we raised £1,250 ! . Amazing amount! amazing turn out and over all great tribute that so many did turn up. This story infact made the Local Papers Shropshire Star and also Penkridge News.

21st April Finally Saw our First Website design get launched after months of input.

it was also a great way of people knowing what ride outs are coming up if they didnt have facebook.

April was a awful month, esp for Tommo’s family where the team of M.R asked to arrange a convoy for Tommo’s funeral. On 24th April 2015 we came and convoyed the Car and tryed to also show our respect to the Family. Im not going to say ” it was a goodbye ” because theirs a saying stuck from a popular film … ” Its Never a Goodbye ” …

Just like to say to all of Tommo’s family, we are still here and always will be x.

May – we did a ride out to Barmouth, ( see photos ) over 75 turned up to come with us and it was the first ride out of that distance we did which included 125’s — usually we would separate into 2 groups. Fantastic day and turn out.

16th May 2015 Midlands Riders did our first ” Wedding Convoy ” .. we attended with over 80 bikes from Telford to Shrewsbury. This also featured in the local papers, Shropshire Star. Through out all of may we did couple more ride outs which were more local, Shropshire and the surrounding area.

June — Midlands Riders went to the TT .. it was official we attended the TT 2015 4 of us went over to watch and also have a ” blast ” around not to mention get the name about.

By this time we had over 1500 likes on Facebook, many following us on Instagram as these are good social media sharing tools.

The rest of june saw ride outs to Pondarosa, Doms Cafe and also Newtown. We even held our own “1 off ” Biker night at shifnal memorial to help save the venue from closing in the week, which 120+ bikers turned up on a “Tuesday” night lol BIG turn out ( see photos )

JULY – Midlands Riders first Prom run, we actually did 3 proms that year. the first one saw 60+ bikers, 2nd one saw 75+ bikers and 3rd was 60+ bikers ..bearing in mind this is all in the middle of the week, some big numbers. Ill have to confirm but i think the 2nd prom ride which was Telford services to the park inn hotel, cruising with a brand new GTR and 75+ bikes im sure the girl won a ” Shropshire  best prom ” award.

July thru to October we did weekly local rides and also fortnightly ride outs. Midlands Riders Attending their First ” RTTW ” as Midlands Riders 🙂

October thru to December there were a couple of ride outs but they were all weather dependent.

Its 2016, we earned our title to be added to the logo which is “EST 2015 “. We also changed our tops for 2016, refresh and try make them look better.

All of 2016 ride outs are on the event page on this website, all the photos are in the gallery and all the ways to contact us are on most social media pages.

2016:

The year started off again in February with our first ride out of the season of which 150+ turned up to start it off well. Over the last 4 months Midlands Riders had been advertising the demo for Maltock bath, in fact march 6th (mothers day) was actually a private ride for myself as its my birthday on the 7th and I changed this for Matlock Bath ride, that morning, mother day 2016 4500+ riders turned up and as we hit the town a further 1500+ were already there waiting for us along side BBC and ITV news crews. An amazing day where all bikers, trikes, quads, scooters etc all stood together !.

We went on to do Tommo’s remembrance ride to which 200+ came out to pay respects, beach rides, proms, weddings, derbyshire dales, welsh twists etc you name it Midlands Riders did it ( full list and pictures see the photo gallery), we even heard of a young boy all the way in Boston, Lincolnshire who loves motorbikes so Midlands Riders took 85 riders up to see young Lewis an we even gave him a top and made him one of the family ( we have stayed in contact all year and even sent him an xmas prezzy 🙂 and will be returning in 2017 see the event pages )

2016 rides officially ended October and we then payed by ear with the weather but for a whole year 2016 has been a AMAZING year and actually made a huge difference in peoples lifes, at the moment there are over 60+ MR Team members, who help with the rides, plans, traffic and routes etc without these MR wouldnt run so smoothly. Thank You to all the team for 2016 hard work and cant WAIT to sit and write up about 2017
